CASSETTE – Clindamycin Adjunctive therapy for Severe Staphylococcus aurEus TreaTment Evaluation

Turning off toxins in golden staph infections

Golden staph infections can be incredibly severe and about 20% of those with invasive or bloodstream infections will die. Some Staphylococcus strains produce toxins that attack the body’s cells, causing infections that destroy tissues in the lungs, bones and skin. We will investigate whether adding clindamycin, an antibiotic that switches off toxin production, will lead to more patients surviving this severe infection.
